Copyright FAQs
The Worship book has rightfully made copyright agreements with their composers and lyricists. These agreements are found in the front of the book.
FAQs:
Can I photocopy music from the worship book, for my personal use or for a choir or for an event or for any other reason?
No, our copyright agreement does not allow for this.
The purple book isn’t available as a hard copy anymore, will it be reprinted and/or can I photocopy someone else’s so I can use it?
The purple book exists as a digital book, so can only be used on iPads etc. It can be purchased here. You cannot photocopy someone else’s book, we do not have permission for that. The purple book will not be reprinted as a hard copy version.
I would like to use one of the songs for a conference/camp, can I photocopy from the book it for the programme?
No, our copyright agreement does not allow for this. However, contact us with the event details and numbers of copies to be made, and we can ask for permission for this on your behalf.
Can I record one of the songs for an event or fundraiser?
No, our copyright agreement does not allow this. There are existing recordings listed on our site under ‘sound files’ for each book. Many of the recordings are for purchase as many of these are raising funds for special projects and we want to support this as much as possible. However, if you are going to record a live event eg a memorial meeting, you can include worship book songs in the recording without requiring extra permission. If you want to record your own version and it isn’t live, please contact us or the composer/lyricist for permission.
Can I project the lyrics onto a screen?
Yes, no extra permission is needed for this. However, the composer, lyricist and worship book number must be acknowledged.
Can I make a lyric video for singing along?
We already have some available, thanks to Felicity Thomas and others, for which permission has been gained. Please have a look at our sound files page for links to these. For filmmakers and other creatives who are interested in doing something artistically creative in addition to these, please let us know!
My ecclesia only likes some of the songs or only want the songs they already know and want to make their own supplementary book from the worship book. Can we do this?
No, we do not have permission for that. Consider also the time, energy, creativity, love and Godly service put into projects like these - we have already done the hard work for you and the worship book is already a supplementary book. We have included many musical tastes, styles, lyrical content and ensemble types in these books and all the pieces have been written by your own brothers and sisters. We have also run the lyrics past lyric consultants to double check theological/doctrinal content. We strongly suggest using the books in their current form and exploring the music a little more.
We already have too many books to choose from and the books are heavy.
‘Great! You may not want to use the worship book, that’s ok. We however are passionate about ‘singing a new song to the Lord’ and we love using our own community’s music for this, supporting the service of our creatives. If your books are too heavy, we suggest using e-books on an iPad or similar device - these are available for our books, for the green hymn book and for the PTL book.
If you have any other questions, please let us know.
