Blue Worship Book Launch, UK, by Amy Parkin
60 Christadelphians, 60 Songs With summer exams and holidays out of the way, around 60 brothers, sisters and young people met at Solihull ecclesial hall, near Birmingham, UK, on Saturday 26th October to belatedly celebrate the launch of the blue Worship Book. Volunteers arrived early to decorate the room with blue streamers and pom poms, and to create a blue balloon arch. We really wanted it to feel like a fun celebration! After some essential vocal warm-ups, we got cracking. We had about five hours of singing time, interspersed with lots of breaks. During that time, we worked our way through 59 songs (that's 40% of the book!) and sang one of our favourites - Salvation Belongs to our God - twice. The aim was to sing through as many of the songs as possible, and to sample lots of different styles. We certainly achieved our goal! Sis. Amy Parkin led the day from the piano, with various volunteers jumping in to play guitar, cajon, and other percussion in the more upbeat songs. For some of the songs - especially those by Damascus Road and Seventh Day - we used the links on the Worship Book website to find tracks we could sing along to, which made for a powerful experience. We also watched some of the introductions to the songs which had been filmed for the Sydney launch. It was great to hear what the composers had to say about their songs, and to learn the stories behind them. It was a fantastic day, but my voice still hasn't quite recovered yet...!
